About The Kiss:
The Kiss was painted by Gustav Klimt, an Austrian symbolist painter and is probably his most famous work. He started work on The Kiss in 1907 and this was the highpoint in his professional life. The Kiss depicts a couple locked in embrace, sharing a kiss against a background of gold and bronze shades and shapes, a pattern with clear ties to Art Nouveau.

Klimt was a man with a strong sexual appetite and was obsessed by women. The Kiss is Klimt's discreet expression of eroticism and the liberation therein which is very much his dintinct style. His themes were often based on the female body marked by a  degree of suggested eroticism.

The Kiss
is currently at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere museum, in the Belvedere palace, in Vienna, Austria. Gustav Klimt and The Kiss were selected as the main motif for the 100 euro gold, a collector's item issued on 5 November 2003.
