Barometers

A barometer measures atmospheric pressure. Used to predict short term changes in weather, a barometer is useful to forecast the weather especially when you're venturing outdoors for any length of time. By measuring the change in barometric pressure, you can get a reasonably accurate weather forecast especially when combined with wind observations. Localised high atmospheric pressure acts as a barrier to approaching weather systems causing their course to be diverted. When your barometer shows an increase in atmospheric pressure caused by converging low level wind into the surface, this means clouds and possible rain. When the pressure change is high, especially if more than 3.5 hPa, a greater change in weather is expected. When the pressure rapidly falls, a low pressure system is approaching, which means a greater chance of rain . If there is a rapid increase in pressure, as in the wake of a cold front, this means the weather is about to improve and you're likely to see clearing skies. If you need a barometer to watch the weather, check out the Weather Stations on Red Wrappings. They make a great gift for people who are keen on outdoor adventures, cycling, hiking, bushwalhing, fishing and any other activity that relies on the weather.
