Australian Gift - Two Cent Coin History

This beautiful watch features the Australian Two Cent Coin on the watch face. If you would like to own a piece of Australian history, here is some trivia worth knowing...
The Australian Two Cent Coin came into circulation in 1966. In the first year of minting the coin, 145.2 million were minted in the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra, 66.6 million at the Melbourne Mint and 217.7 million at the Perth Mint. From 1966 till 1984, Queen Elizabeth II was featured on the coin face but this was changed in 1985. The last year of minting was 1989. The coin was withdrawn in 1992 due to inflation reducing its value and the high cost of bronze.
Did you know that after removal from circulation, some of the coins were melted down to make bronze medals for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney?
