THE BAREFOOT STORY:
In 1958, Barbara Sansoni, a colourist and artist, created BAREFOOT. She wanted to help young Sri Lankan women, who had little schooling and no skills. Today, BAREFOOT has been successful in achieving its objective and has become a premier textile design company exporting worldwide whilst helping the poorer community make ends meet.
All BAREFOOT products are painstakingly handmade from start to finish. Using yarn that is hand dyed, from premium Swiss colourfast and non-toxic dyes, the fabrics are hand woven and then made into different products to be exported. The high quality workmanship is assured, as there is no time asserted on the weavers and needlewomen. They are not cheap substitutes for machinery, which is why BAREFOOT products are relatively expensive but they will last a lifetime and will be a constant reminder that you are helping someone in need. BAREFOOT products are by no means mass-produced; every piece is unique and no two pieces are the same.
BAREFOOT is not a charity organisation. The workers earn an honest wage with dignity and self respect, to bring food to the table and provide shelter for their families.
