Also known as the Moloch, the Thorny Devil is a harmless reptile with a slow, jerky walk, lifting its tail as it does so. Its colour ranges from yellow to a reddy brown to black depending on the type of soil it is moving across, which serves as a camouflage. They can grow to a total length of 20 cm, feeding exclusively on ants. It is found throughoutout Australia's interior desert, mostly on sandy soils. To keep themselves cool on really hot days, the thorny devils burrow themselves into the ground, sometimes under small shrubs to provide extra protection from the heat. They have the ability to puff themselves up to make them look larger. Designed by Jane Elwell. Handpainted. made of polyresin. Dimension: 18cm.
